Xiaomi announced that its next lineup of flagship models will be called the Xiaomi 17 instead of the earlier rumored Xiaomi 16 series.
Xiaomi’s Lu Weibing shared the news and confirmed that the lineup will debut later this month. The brand has also started accepting pre-orders for the series in China.
In a recent post, the official applauded the successful launch of the Apple iPhone 17 series. However, he underscored that Xiaomi is confident of its upcoming series’ capability to challenge the said Apple devices. As such, the Chinese giant has chosen to skip the 16 moniker in order to compete with the iPhone 17 “at the same level.”
Apple continues to excel. Everyone has witnessed the success of the iPhone 17 series, but we remain confident, which is why we are directly competing against the iPhone in the same generation and at the same level. (Machine translated)
The brand also named the first three models of the series: the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. While the Chinese company doesn’t have the equivalent of the iPhone 17 Air, the three models’ names are the same as those of the other models in the iPhone 17 series.
