Big changes are allegedly coming to the Huawei Mate X series, which will include its moniker, maximum memory capacity, and design.
The upcoming Huawei foldable is rumored to be coming this month, and earlier reports have referred to it as the Mate X7. However, a new tip from China says that the brand is skipping a number and will directly market it as the Huawei Mate X8 in its release.
The change is also coming to the camera island of the phone, which is reportedly being considered for three designs. According to the material leaked online, the brand is testing three shapes for the module, including cylindrical, hexagonal, and cube-shaped islands.
Interestingly, the foldable is also reportedly receiving a memory upgrade with the introduction of a 20GB RAM option. To recall, the Mate X6 was introduced in China with a maximum of a 16GB/1TB configuration. According to reports, the Mate 80 series will also be available in 20GB RAM options.
The Huawei Mate X8 is expected to be available in five color options: Obsidian Black, Phantom Purple, Cosmic Red, Cloud Blue, and Cloud White. The phone is said to be thinner than its predecessor, but it has a larger battery (compared to the 5110mAh battery of the X6). Specifically, it is believed to measure 4.6mm when unfolded and 9.9mm when folded.
Moreover, the upcoming Mate model will sport a 7.95 “± 2K COE LTPO+ internal display. The company is also testing its camera, including 50MP 1/1.56″ and 50MP 1/1.3” lenses with variable apertures for the main camera. Additionally, the system reportedly features a 50MP periscope telephoto macro lens and a multi-spectral camera. It is also said to be using Huawei’s new generation chip, the Kirin 9030 SoC.
Ultimately, the Huawei Mate X8 reportedly features a high waterproof protection rating and will be “ultra-light.” For comparison, the Mate X6 has an IPX8 rating and weighs 239 grams.
