Huawei: Mate 80 series has no built-in magnetic wireless charging

Huawei itself confirmed that the Huawei Mate 80 series does not have built-in magnets for magnetic wireless charging.

Speculations began months ago, and the belief was further strengthened after the lineup’s design was revealed. To recall, the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, and Mate 80 Pro Max all sport a dual-ring design on their rear panels. This led many to believe that the phones have a magnetic wireless charging feature.

However, Huawei says otherwise. According to the company, the phones do not have the capability, like the MagSafe, which is an Apple proprietary technology. Despite this, the Chinese giant underscored that the devices can rely on the magnetic function of its official magnetic stand case.

The lineup debuted this week in China, featuring the Huawei Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and Mate 80 RS models.

There are several differences among the models, including the chips inside them. While the vanilla houses the Kirin 9020, the rest of the series variants have the Kirin 9030 series SoCs. The Pro Max and RS models also feature larger batteries and faster charging speeds, with both boasting 6000mAh cells and 100W charging support. Compared to the standard and Pro models, the two higher-tier devices also have better camera systems, thanks to their 50MP macro telephoto and 50MP 6.2x periscope telephoto units. Additionally, the RS model is available in 20GB RAM variants. Wrapping up the entire series is the bright display, which can reach up to 8000nits of brightness.
