Leak: Xiaomi’s detachable camera lens module coming this year

According to a new tip, Xiaomi could soon unveil its magnetic camera lens module.

In March 2025, Xiaomi teased its Modular Optical System, which features a detachable lens that attaches using a magnet. The company then used it on a modified Xiaomi 15 series model with a Qi2 magnet and even published some sample photos.

After several headlines buried the news under the pile, reputable leaker Digital Chat Station has resurrected the topic, saying it is now under mass production. The tipster also shared that the accessory could arrive “as early as this year.”

To recall, the lens has an M43 sensor, which is much larger than what is found in any smartphone on the market. The sensor features an f/1.4-f/11 aperture and a 35mm focal-length fixed-focus lens. It relies on Xiaomi’s LaserLink technology, allowing it to attach magnetically and draw power directly from the phone.

The list of models that will adopt the accessory remains unknown. Yet, based on the description of the Modular Optical System, smartphones that support it will have the Qi2 magnet and data system. As per rumors, the Xiaomi Mix 5 could be one of them. The phone is rumored to feature a high-resolution screen with thin bezels and without a selfie cutout. It is also reportedly equipped with a ceramic body.
