Xiaomi HyperOS 4 announced with glass UI design, performance boost, Super AI Assistant 2.0, more

Xiaomi has finally unveiled HyperOS 4, which offers several upgrades across various areas.

The Android 17-based system arrived as a major system overhaul. One of its key highlights is the Liquid Glass visual design for its UI. It covers the control center, quick toggles, folders, and the lock screen, and applies translucent effects and even real-time light rendering.

Speaking of looks, the changes also give users more freedom in the lock screen, including the rearrangement of elements and resizing of widgets and folders. The switch between landscape and portrait orientation in apps is now more seamless, and floating apps are also affected by this change.

To ensure that the entire OS experience is flawless, the Zero-Legacy Architecture has reduced old legacy code, effectively reducing system bloat and idle memory consumption. Also, compared to the earlier generation, HyperOS 4 is said to offer 17.5% better application launching speed consistency and 90% faster gallery scrolling, while long-session frame drops should drop by around 29%.

Another noteworthy detail is the Super AI Assistant 2.0, which is powered by Xiaomi’s proprietary MiMo large language model. The AI offers a handful of features, including the Inspiration Ball (a draggable contextual tool to highlight text and images for actions like product searches and map navigation), Super Island (pill-shaped notification built around the punch-hole front camera for real-time status updates), unified cross-device management, automated voice transcriptions, native photo album semantic lookups, and more.

The HyperOS 4 public beta testing has now started. The first batch of beta version recruitment includes the Xiaomi 17 and the Redmi K90 series. According to Xiaomi, here are the models that will be covered by the update and when it will roll out to them:
