New details about Xiaomi’s Smart Privacy Display have emerged online.
Earlier reports indicated that the Chinese giant had been preparing new privacy controls for its upcoming devices. This includes a display feature that will allegedly limit viewing angles, preventing others from prying into the smartphone.
Now, videos and screenshots of Xiaomi’s work have leaked online.
According to the photos, the Smart Privacy Display prevents prying eyes from viewing the screen from the side. It also offers continuous detection and “alerts” users when someone is looking at the screen. It also “allows the device to turn privacy display based on the selected scenario.” The feature can be used on selected applications or used as a device-wide protection.
The leak states that the screenshots are taken from the international version of Xiaomi’s firmware, meaning it will debut globally. However, the Page Privacy Display and Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAI Groups features are reportedly limited to the Chinese version of the ROM.
The Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAI Groups option allows users to add apps to a group and specify how the privacy feature works for them. Meanwhile, the Page Privacy Display is “automatically turned on for specific sensitive pages,” including password input, payment, fund transfer, and messages.
The features are reportedly coming first in the Xiaomi 18 series.
