The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are now official, bringing a handful of upgrades.
To start, the new devices feature the new flagship Snapdragon chips. While the Pro variant has the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the Pro Max is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme, and both are the first phones to offer these Qualcomm SoCs.
They now also house larger batteries: a huge 7000mAh cell powers the Pro, while the Pro Max takes it further with an 8500mAh cell. Xiaomi also included fast-charging capabilities in the phones, as both offer 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wireless charging.
In front, they sport a 2K LTPO AMOLED with a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate, 4000nits peak brightness, and a layer of Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3. The difference is the display size: the Pro Max has a larger 6.9″ display, while the Pro has a smaller 6.4″ screen.
As promised, the new flagship phones adopted the rear displays we saw in the Xiaomi 17 Pro series. However, they are better and offer more functionalities. As previously reported, the rear screens enable users to create their own apps using AI. Xiaomi showcased several samples, including an app for egg cooking times, a water-drinking reminder, a learning app for new words, and more.
In addition to being useful for selfies using the rear cam system, the rear display also lets users customize AI wallpapers and even access the Xiao AI assistant.
The main star of the new Xiaomi 18 Pro series screen, nonetheless, is the new hardware-level privacy technology. This prevents peeping eyes from viewing the screen content from an angle. It also offers continuous detection and “alerts” users when someone is looking at the screen. It also “allows the device to turn privacy display based on the selected scenario.” The feature can be used on selected applications or used as a device-wide protection.
In the camera department, the new smartphones also impress: a 23mm 200MP 1/1.28″ Light Hunter 960 main camera, a 75mm 200MP 1/1.56″ periscope telephoto with 3.2x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide lens with a 102-degree field of view.
Both devices are available in 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, 16GB/1TB, and 16GB/1TB (Special Edition) configurations. For the Pro, these options are priced at CN¥5,999 ($895), CN¥6,999 ($1,045), CN¥7,999 ($1,193), CN¥8,999 ($1,343), and CN¥9,999 ($1,492), respectively. Meanwhile, you can get those variants for Pro Max for CN¥6,999 ($1,045), CN¥7,999 ($1,193), CN¥8,999 ($1,343), CN¥9,999 ($1,492), and CN¥10,999 ($1,642), respectively.
