Xiaomi has done so many devices since its founding year, 2010. From its prime years since 2015, Xiaomi had so many popular devices. Xiaomi’s prototype devices have started to be the talk since they started leaking out to the internet. Xiaomi has made so many prototypes that they didn’t even release or release but with fewer specs. Xiaomi also has released phones that are experimental and was to be seen as the world’s first.

Xiaomi’s Prototype Devices: The Beginning

Xiaomi has been testing so many devices, one and another way, they have so many devices on their hands to test, that they forget to test some devices sometimes and then release them to the public which makes chronic failures right after. The most known phones out of Xiaomi’s prototype devices are:

  • Xiaomi U1
  • Xiaomi Davinci
  • Xiaomi Hercules
  • Xiaomi Comet
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha (Draco)

These devices were the talk of the Xiaomi Community for a long time, people still talk about how Xiaomi Davinci has changed the environment of Xiaomi phones as a whole. Here are Xiaomi’s prototype devices!

Xiaomi U1 (The first foldable Xiaomi)

Xiaomi U1 has been shown and teased to the public many, many times, but didn’t release. While there was no Samsung Galaxy Fold, Xiaomi was already working on a full foldable device, but that idea didn’t hold out as it was supposed to. However, after the release of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Xiaomi also decided to do a foldable phone just like Samsung did, and they have released Xiaomi Mi MIX FOLD.

Xiaomi Mi MIX FOLD came with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 680 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 680 & 4×1.80 GHz Kryo 680) CPU with Adreno 660 GPU inside. Has a 90Hz Foldable AMOLED screen that has a resolution of 1860×2480. Has 12GB RAM with 256/512GB internal storage options. Xiaomi Davinci (POCO F2)

Xiaomi Davinci is one of the most known Xiaomi’s prototype devices, mainly because of how it changed the environment of Xiaomi as a whole. After the release of POCO F1, Xiaomi started to test the all-new Snapdragon 855, and they have used Xiaomi Davinci for all of the testing purposes, Rumors say that Xiaomi got most of their fixes from Xiaomi Davinci, if Xiaomi has reached its climax on quality nowadays, it’s all thanks to their testing days on Xiaomi Davinci.

Later, Xiaomi Davinci has been put on the shelves and Xiaomi released another device with the same codename as the Mi 9T we know today, Mi 9T was also an interesting phone with its motorized pop-up camera, but it didn’t sell that well, and Xiaomi Davinci was more powerful than Mi 9T.

Xiaomi Mi 9T came with Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 Octa-core (2×2.2 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver) CPU with Adreno 618 GPU inside. Has a 60Hz AMOLED screen that has a resolution of 1860×2480. Has 12GB RAM with 256/512GB internal storage options. You can check out the full information about the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold and leave your comments about the device by clicking here.

There isn’t much information on what the actual Xiaomi Davinci had inside. but the leaks show that it had Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 485 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4×1.78 GHz Kryo 485) CPU with Adreno 640 GPU inside. Has an IPS Tianma screen that is 6 inches long and has a resolution of 1080×2340. 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage, and is claimed to be one of the first devices that have been developed with a punch-hole camera that is 20MP. And also a 12MP camera in the back panel.

The engineering software inside Xiaomi Davinci is based on Android 9.0 Pie. The specifications seem so close to Mi 9T Pro, and it also has been tested with Magisk Modules! This means that some of the testers are using Magisk to test their devices from the inside out. This is one of Xiaomi’s prototype devices that has been leaked inside-out and has been tested for years.

Xiaomi Hercules (Mi 9 but with a Gen 1 Under-display Front Camera)

By the time the Mi 9 was in the development and testing phases, there was also a device that had the same specifications that Mi 9 had. But with a little twist, such as an under-display camera. With Xiaomi MIX 4, Xiaomi has introduced the world of phones with under-display front cameras. While keeping the screen full, your front camera will be hidden on your screen, making the usage perfect. This is also one of the most known Xiaomi’s prototype devices.

Mi 9 also has the same specifications that Xiaomi Davinci had. We speculate that Xiaomi Hercules also has the same specifications as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 485 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4×1.78 GHz Kryo 485) CPU with Adreno 640 GPU inside. There is no information on how big the screen is with its panel type and resolution. And also with its storage options. And is claimed to be one of the first devices that have been developed with an under-display front camera that is shown as Samsung’s ISOCELL 3T1, which is 20 megapixels.

Xiaomi Comet (E20)

There were widespread rumors on a device will release that has Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, and the codename of this Xiaomi device was labeled “comet”. Comet is said to be one of the first Xiaomi devices that has an IP68 waterproof certification. There is not much to say about this device, other than to tell its specifications, but this has left so many question marks on the Xiaomi Community, what was Comet supposed to be? Why was the back plate on that device like a tank? Was Xiaomi aiming to make over-protective devices like the Samsung XCover series?

Xiaomi Comet was supposed to release with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Octa-core (2×2.2 GHz Kryo 360 Gold & 6×1.7 GHz Kryo 360 Silver) CPU with Adreno 616 GPU inside. There is no information on how big the screen is with its panel type and resolution. And also with its storage options. And is claimed to be one of the first devices that have been developed with an under-display front camera that is shown as Samsung’s ISOCELL 3T1 which is 20 megapixels.

There isn’t much information about this device, but it sure would be the same as Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and Mi 8 SE. Xiaomi Comet was a weird but great entry, and also, there is another variant of comet that was Android One and was supposed to be labeled as Mi A3 Extreme. There is no information about the device itself, it’s just there in the codename. Xiaomi Comet was one of the weirdest and most mysterious Xiaomi’s prototype devices ever known.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha (Draco)

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is also one of the most known Xiaomi’s prototype devices. Xiaomi has teased this device so much to the public as the future of what the newer model phones in the world can be, but this phone has failed to pass durability tests. So it was discontinued. Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha had one of the best screen panels inside, and one of the best storage options inside, making the device a mega-flagship if you will.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha was supposed to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ Octa-core (1×2.96 GHz Kryo 485 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 485) CPU with Adreno 640 as the GPU. 7.92″ 2088×2250 60Hz Flexible SUPER AMOLED display. No front camera sensors, three 108MP Main, 12MP telephoto, and 20MP ultrawide rear camera sensors. 12GB RAM with 512GB internal storage support. Mi Mix Alpha was intended to come with a 4050mAh Li-Po battery + 40W fast charging support. Intended to come with Android 10-powered MIUI 11. To have an under-display fingerprint reader. You can check this canceled device’s full specifications by clicking here.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, also known as U2 or Draco, was supposed to be one of the revolutionary devices in the phone market and was the true representation of what the “fake iPhone renders” are supposed to be in real life. Xiaomi was confident about releasing this phone, but due to some durability flaws, this phone didn’t pass the global durability tests. Hence why the phone got canceled in the first place. This was one of the best Xiaomi’s prototype devices ever made.
