A brand official said the company is not trying to save some money by opting for a 1.5K resolution for the 165Hz display on its upcoming OnePlus 15 model.
The OnePlus 15 will be launched this Friday in China alongside the OnePlus Ace 6. The brand recently started teasing the device, underscoring that one of its highlights is its 165Hz refresh rate, the highest ever on any OLED model. However, fans questioned the company as to why it would use a lower 1.5 K resolution instead of a 2K resolution, like most flagship devices. Speculations suggested earlier that it was because of cost cuts, but OnePlus China President Li Jie dismissed the idea.
According to the executive, it is not because of any cost reasons, but because of the current limits in the technology. As the official shared, display manufacturers still haven’t figured out how to produce 2K OLED screens that can handle a 165Hz refresh rate. Pairing the said resolution and refresh rate could result in various issues, including slow pixel charging times, display refresh and touch input sync issues, display instability, and shorter panel lifespans.
Moreover, to ultimately end rumors about the company trying to cut costs, he claimed that the OnePlus 15’s BOE X3 panel is actually more expensive than the OnePlus 13’s X2 display. With the new display, the OnePlus 15 is said to be capable of offering reduced power consumption and better color performance.
