Nothing Phone (4a) series debuts with new designs, component upgrades

The Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro are finally here. Both phones offer some improvements over their predecessors.

However, not everything about the devices is glitter and rainbows. While it is true that the London-based company made some enhancements, the phones also retained some of their predecessors’ specs and even got some downgrades. Yet, to justify the price hike it implemented on the new devices, Nothing made sure fans could still notice the upgrades more prominently.

To start, the vanilla and Pro variants come with different designs. While the vanilla model has the new Glyph Bar, the Pro model adopted the more flexible, circular Glyph Matrix feature we first saw in the Nothing Phone (3). However, the component is now larger and features LEDs that reach up to 3000nits.

The Pro also comes with a newer Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (vs. the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 of its predecessor) chip, a thinner body, a metal unibody design (vs. plastic), an IP65 rating (vs. IP64), UFS 3.1 storage (vs. UFS 2.2), and a bigger 6.83″ display (vs. 6.77″ AMOLED). However, from the 50MP selfie unit of the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, the new model now only has a 32MP front camera.

The standard Phone (4a) also got some upgrades. However, it is not as substantial as its Pro sibling. On a positive note, it comes with the same camera lenses as the other phone, except it comes with a 50MP 1/1.57″ Samsung GN9 main camera (vs. the Sony sensor in the Pro). It also has a minor upgrade in terms of its Snapdragon 7s Gen chip, a display with a higher resolution and peak brightness, and a 5080mAh battery (vs. 5000mAh).

As noted earlier, there is a price increase in both models. However, this is not surprising, as almost all brands face the same dilemma due to rising memory costs. Also, the brand earlier announced the matter. To compare, the Phone (3a) debuted with a base price of €330 for its 8GB/128GB variant. That configuration in the Phone (4a) now costs €350. Meanwhile, the Phone (4a) Pro’s 12GB/256GB costs €550, a huge increase from last year’s (3a) Pro, which has the same configuration for only €460.
