Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset was only available with a 5G modem. The 4G version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be launched very soon, which will benefit HUAWEI. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G is cheaper and has a lower baseband than the 5G-supported version. Basically, apart from smartphones, it can be used in tablet models that want to be equipped with cellular.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has an integrated 5G baseband and enables 5G usage at high speeds. High-speed 5G technology has not yet fully caught on, but it is a feature that should be found in every new smartphone. However, there are some manufacturers that do not offer this feature, for example HUAWEI. Due to years of problems with the US government, HUAWEI is embargoed by many US companies, including Google. Another consequence of the embargo is the supply blocking for 5G-supported chipsets.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G Specifications
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G is identical to the 5G model except for the lower baseband. The chipset is manufactured by Samsung in a 4nm process and features the ARMv9 architecture, unlike previous chipsets. The ARMv9 architecture is much more powerful and offers high energy efficiency. The 4G Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset consists of Cortex X2, Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores. The Adreno 730 GPU in the chipset is 30% more powerful than that of the predecessor series. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G has problems with overheating because it is manufactured by Samsung. Samsung’s manufacturing process is inefficient and causes problems.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has 6MB of L3 cache. It has FastConnect 6900 WiFi, which can reach high speeds and offers stable internet connection. It supports the latest storage standard UFS 3.1 and the latest LPDDR5 memory technology. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G chipset is about 20% more powerful than its predecessor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G.
Release Date
The 4G-only version of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus release date. It has been reported that smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will be released in June or July at the latest. Thus, we can assume that the successor of the Snapdragon 888 4G, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4G, will be launched in July at the latest.
