Vanilla Mate 80 model also getting 3D face recognition

According to new leaked documents, the entire Huawei Mate 80 series will soon be armed with 3D face recognition.

Currently, the feature is only available to the lineup’s Pro and RS variants. However, the company recently confirmed that the upcoming Mate 80 series will run on HarmonyOS 6. Amid the preparation for the said system, a leaked document of the OS directly mentioned that the entire Mate 80 series will get the said capability.

Currently, only the entire Mate 80 series and other Mate Pro and above devices support 3D face recognition (foldable screens and the P series are not currently supported).

Even more, according to Digital Chat Station, Huawei will use a new generation of domestic solution for the lineup’s 3D face recognition.

The tipster also noted that Huawei’s upcoming devices will employ components, modules, transmitters, and receivers made in China. This is not surprising, nonetheless, as the giant continues to strive to gain independence in producing its own products.

As per earlier reports, the series will launch in mid to late November and will be released in early December. The series is said to include the Huawei Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro+, and Mate 80 RS models. According to leaks, the vanilla model is coming in black, white, and turquoise. Meanwhile, the Pro model is now being tested for black, white, gold, and cyan colorways. The Mate 80 Pro+ and Mate 80 RS models, on the other hand, are reportedly being considered for black, white, gold, purple, cyan, and silver options.

The Mate 80 series reportedly has better power management and reduced power consumption. This complements an earlier leak saying that the series will use the Kirin 9030 chip, which should offer 20% better performance than its predecessor. The devices’ memory has also been upgraded, and the lineup is said to offer “system-level AI analytics and services.”

In the camera department, the series will offer a variable aperture, upgraded zoom and flash, and a color temperature sensor. As per reports, the vanilla and Pro models will employ 50MP 1/1.5″ and 50MP 1/1.3″ main cameras. The Pro+ and RS models, on the other hand, are rumored to come with a 50MP 1/1.3″ SmartSens 590 sensor.
