Xiaomi 12 series was unveiled in December 2021 and launched globally on March 15. There are 3 different models in the Xiaomi 12 series, the Xiaomi 12 Lite has not been introduced, but there are known some details about it. The affordable new model in the Xiaomi 12 series, the Xiaomi 12 Lite, preserves the unique design lines of the series and has ambitious technical features for a mid-range model.
Xiaomi 12 Lite first appeared in the IMEI database in December 2021. With the global model number 2203129G and the Indian model number 2203129I, the new model is codenamed “taoyao” and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. Like all Xiaomi 12 models, it also features a triple camera setup and the camera design is similar to the Vanilla/Pro models. The main camera is believed to be a Samsung ISOCELL HM3 sensor with 108MP resolution. Wide-angle and macro camera sensors are also expected to be equipped.
Xiaomi 12 Lite Other Technical Specifications
Apart from the main camera sensor, there are known about other camera sensors. The secondary camera is an 8MP Sony IMX 355 sensor with f/2.2 aperture. It is an ultra-wide sensor. The third camera is the 2MP GalaxyCore GC02M1 sensor, which can be used to take macro photos. On the front, there is the Sony IMX 616 with 32MP resolution. The 6.55-inch 1080p OLED display supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display will likely support HDR10 and Dolby Vision for playing HDR-supported contents. Equipped with a 4500mAh battery and 55W fast charging, the Xiaomi 12 Lite will have 8/128GB and 8/256GB RAM/storage options.
Xiaomi 12 Lite ships with MIUI 13 based on Android 12. Another plus of being released with the latest MIUI version is the long-term update support. Xiaomi 12 Lite will receive Android 14 update in 2024 and will receive security updates until 2025.
On March 25, the Xiaomi 12 Lite was subjected to a Geekbench test. The global version of the Xiaomi 12 Lite achieved a single-core score of 788 and a multi-core score of 2864 in Geekbench version 5.4.4. The results are almost identical compared to the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE with the same chipset. Xiaomi’s new Lite model will not bring a big performance increase compared with the predecessor.
In March, Xiaomi 12 Lite passed TKDN and FCC tests, apart from Geekbench 5 benchmarks. This means that the Lite version of Xiaomi’s latest series is ready to be launched.
Most recently, live images of the Xiaomi 12 Lite were leaked in April, giving an impression of the model’s design details. The device has sharp edges compared to other Xiaomi 12 models and the back design is largely similar to the other members of the series. The Xiaomi 12 Lite will most likely launch with a glass back. On the screen side, the thin bezeks are noticeable.
