Xiaomi unveiled a number of products in October event, including the eagerly awaited Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro. Xiaomi offers really good features in Xiaomi 12T series at a more affordable price compared to Xiaomi 12 series. Xiaomi 12T Pro is the first Xiaomi phone that uses 200 MP camera sensor manufactured by Samsung.
Xiaomi 12T series
The key difference between Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro are the camera and processor. Both of the phones packing a powerful chipset, Xiaomi 12T is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Ultra and Xiaomi 12T Pro is by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. On the camera side Xiaomi 12T comes with a 108 MP and the Pro model packs 200 MP camera sensor. We’ll be taking a look at into the details further.
Display
Both Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro have the same display, both the devices feature 6.67″ AMOLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate. Since phones have grown in size over time, majority of the flagship phones have displays with more resolution such as QHD or 4K. Xiaomi 12T series doesn’t offer the best display but its resolution is 1.5K (1220*2712).
The display supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, it’s also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The selfie camera is placed in the middle, both the devices have a 20 MP front camera.
Design and cameras
Both the phones have a flat display with a punch hole notch. The front of the phones are very similar to the other Xiaomi phones but on the back both of the phones packing a big camera sensor as main camera. Since the main camera on both phones is large and they pack a big battery, we can’t help but notice the camera bump. Xiaomi 12T series have 8.6mm of thickness and weight of 202 grams.
Xiaomi 12T has 108 MP ISOCELL HM6 main camera and its sensor size is 1/1.67″. Xiaomi 12T Pro has an even bigger sensor measured at 1/1.28″. Xiaomi 12T Pro packs 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 as main camera. It’s not the biggest sensor in the market but we are expected to see that 12T Pro’s 200 MP camera will enable it to take clear, detailed photos. Both the phones feature a 8 MP ultra wide camera and 2 MP macro camera. Unfortunately Xiaomi didn’t use a telephoto camera on this series.
Even though Xiaomi 12T has a really good processor and camera unfortunately Xiaomi 12T can’t record videos at 4K 60 FPS. We assume it will be fixed with a software update since Dimensity 8100 Ultra is capable of shooting at 4K 60 FPS. Google has done a similar thing like this with Pixel 4 series. While the Pixel 5 has the same camera as the Pixel 4, the newer Pixel 5 can shoot 4K videos at 60 frames per second.
The high megapixel camera of the Xiaomi 12T Pro ensures that there isn’t a significant quality loss when using the 2x digital zoom. Just like Apple did in the iPhone 14 Pro series, Xiaomi offers 2x zoom photos on Xiaomi 12T Pro by cropping them over 200 MP images. This makes the lack of telephoto lens less of an issue.
Lei Jun states “A big advantage of 200MP, which I like the most, is its optical quality. Our 2x photos generated by 200MP deliver almost the same image quality as a telephoto lens thanks to its high pixel count.“. on his Twitter account.
Xiaomi 12T Pro also has a feature called ProFocus. It can track rapidly moving objects in the frame and focus quickly. Xiaomi has also optimized Xiaomi 12T Pro while processing 200 MP images. In addition, Xiaomi 12T Pro offers Ultra Night Video which improves shooting videos in low light.
Battery
Both of the phones pack a 5000 mAh battery which is fairly good for the phones with flagship processors. For instance, all phones in the Xiaomi 12S series have a lower battery capacity compared to the 5000 mAh battery on the Xiaomi 12T series.
These two phones have also been benefited from Xiaomi’s super fast charging. Both the smartphones can be charged at 120W.
Performance
Both the smartphones use latest and greatest processors from Snapdragon and MediaTek. 12T is powered by Dimensity 8100 Ultra and 12T Pro is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Dimensity 8100 Ultra uses ARM’s Cortex A-78 cores and it has Mali G610 GPU.
Xiaomi 12T Pro uses the best from Snapdragon which is Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Qualcomm had heating issues on their previous processors. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is just to be released soon but Xiaomi prefers to use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 this time. Dimensity 8100 Ultra is definitely a slower CPU compared to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Storage options & Price
UFS 3.1 is used by both of the phones. Xiaomi 12T Pro features larger storage and RAM options. If you shoot videos a lot you might consider to buy the Pro model since Xiaomi 12T Pro offers more RAM and 4K 60 FPS videos. Xiaomi 12T series comes in 3 different colors. Xiaomi 12T series feature Gray, Blue and Black colors. Both 12T and 12T Pro are available in these color options. Also back cover of 12T series is made of glass.
The prices of Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro’s vary according to storage options. 8GB/128GB option of Xiaomi 12T starts with a price tag of €599. The same option starts at 750 € for Xiaomi 12T Pro.
