Xiaomi 17 series to debut on Sept. 25; Vanilla model retains predecessor’s design

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 series will debut this week. In addition to the date, the announcement shares the design of the standard Xiaomi 17 model.

The news follows earlier revelations by the Chinese brand about the Pro and Pro Max models, which both boast rear displays. It can also be recalled that the company explained that it skipped 16 and named the series 17 to compete head-to-head with the new iPhone 17 series. This could explain the similarities between the designs of the Pro and Pro Max models and those of their Apple counterparts. However, unlike its other siblings, the vanilla model will still have the same camera design as its predecessor. It sports a square-shaped camera module with four circular cutouts, a flat back panel, and flat side frames. Yet, it is noticeable that it has much softer and rounder corners than the Xiaomi 16.

The series is expected to include the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, which would house 7000mAh, 6300mAh, and 7500mAh batteries, respectively. The entire series will also support 100W charging and use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.

The Pro and Pro Max are reportedly sharing similarities in their camera systems, but the latter is expected to get a better telephoto unit. According to a leak, the Pro model boasts a triple 50MP Leica camera setup with a 50MP f/1.67 main camera, a 17mm ultrawide, and an f3.0 115mm telephoto unit with a 5X optical zoom. The Pro Max model is also said to house the same main and ultrawide Leica camera units. However, the variant is rumored to have a better telephoto with a wider f/2.6 aperture.
