Leak: Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s 16GB/512GB pricier vs. Chinese variant but gets smaller battery

Buyers in Europe will have to pay more for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s 16GB/512GB configuration than its Chinese counterpart, despite having a smaller cell inside.

The Chinese giant is set to unveil the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra globally soon. Both phones are now in China, with the latter flaunting the highest price tag among all models in the series.

However, a new leak says that global fans, specifically those in Europe, would have to pay more for the phone. According to the tip, the model’s 16GB/512GB configuration will cost €1499. To compare, the handheld’s Chinese version with the same configuration costs only CN¥7,499 ($1,078/€911). Even more, the global version of the phone only offers a 6000mAh cell, while the cheaper Chinese variant has a bigger 6800mAh battery.

The news follows earlier hints from several Chinese smartphone brands about alarming price hikes in the memory and storage components of their devices. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing explained that this is due to the growing trend of AI, with memory manufacturers now focusing on data center production rather than producing more for smartphones.
