According to a prominent leaker, the Xiaomi 18 Ultra has been canceled.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch soon globally. As in the past, we expect the series to include an Ultra variant, which will sit at the top of the lineup with its monstrous camera system. However, tipster Digital Chat Station says the phone has been axed.
According to DCS, the Chinese giant had to cancel it for pricing reasons, thinking the “price was too high and sales wouldn’t be sustainable.”
The Xiaomi 18 Ultra was reportedly set to sell for CN¥9,999 ($ 1,491) for a 12GB/256GB configuration. This is a huge jump from the CN¥6,999 ($1044) debut price of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
This is not a surprise, given the rising cost of smartphone memory and processors. The phone is also expected to bring some significant improvements in other sections, including its camera system.
As per DCS, the phone was supposed to have a 200MP 1/1.12” LOFIC main camera, a 200MP 1/1.28” LOFIC periscope with a continuous zoom lens, a 200MP 1/1.56” ultrawide unit, and a multispectral lens. The handheld is also said to have support for a teleconverter attachment.
Earlier reports also claimed that the Xiaomi 18 Ultra would house the Xring O3 chip, which will feature cores with the following clock speeds: 4.05GHz Prime cores, 3.43GHz Titanium cores, and 3.02GHz Little cores.
