Vivo details X300 Ultra’s improved main camera, periscope telephoto

The Vivo X300 Ultra is indeed coming with a significantly upgraded camera system, thanks to its new primary and periscope lenses.

The brand showcased the Ultra model at MWC. Before the end of the event, Vivo’s Han Boxiao confirmed that the device houses a 200MP main camera, which is armed with a Sony LYTIA-901 1/1.12″ 35mm lens. Compared to its predecessor, the brand says the new component increases the equivalent light-sensitive area per pixel by over 30% and offers a CIPA 6.5 image stabilization rating. To recall, the X200 Ultra only has the CIPA 5.0 tech. Even more, it is said to feature a new coating to reduce reflectivity by about 30%.

Han Boxiao also shared a new clip to showcase the phone’s periscope telephoto’s visible movement. Called the Zeiss 200MP Thanos Gen 5 telephoto lens, it is based on HPE and is said to be a product of a collaboration between Vivo Blueprint and Samsung. It features a 3° OIS, beating the traditional 0.7º to 1º telephoto optical image stabilization range. The executive claims that the camera’s CIPA 7.0 professional-grade image stabilization is generally found only in professional cameras. As per reports, the rear system will also have a 50MP Sony LYT828 ultrawide and a 5MP multispectral sensor.

In addition to its impressive lenses, it features a dedicated Photography Kit, which includes the Vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen2 Ultra and a camera cage. While the latter offers grips and mount holes (for lights, tripod, and microphones) to make it a portable video rig, the former provides a 400mm equivalent focal length. When combined with the phone’s power, users can experience up to 800mm zoom range, with Vivo saying it can still produce quality details even at a 1600mm digital crop.
