A Xiaomi executive has expressed the company’s commitment to not fully drop the burden of rising memory costs to consumers.
Several brands have recently increased the prices of their devices worldwide, including OnePlus. Realme, Nothing, Motorola, Vivo, iQOO, and Oppo. Xiaomi is not an exception. To recall, some Poco and Redmi models have had their prices adjusted recently. The Redmi 15 and Redmi Note 15 were even slapped with a hike twice. Nonetheless, compared to other brands, fewer Xiaomi-branded devices have received price increases.
As brands noted earlier, rising prices for memory and other smartphone components are causing this. As such, several companies have to aggressively push the hike.
Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing, however, suggested in a recent earnings call that the company still refuses to place the entire burden on its consumers. To recall, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun earlier said that the company would find ways to minimize the impact of the hike on consumers.
Lu Weibing also shared that the brand would try to keep the hike at bay “a little longer than others.” Nonetheless, he also underscored that Xiaomi couldn’t do it forever.
At the brand’s latest meeting, the executive revealed the company’s latest plan to address the industry hike.
“We cannot simply pass on the rising memory costs to consumers,” Lu Weibing said. “We need to reposition our products.”
According to the company president, Xiaomi will be able to attain the balance it needs between scale and profit by introducing product matrix upgrades and software optimization. In line with this, the executive promised a new version of the brand’s OS would be released this July or August.
