Confirmed: OnePlus exits US, Europe; Realme adopting ColorOS

OnePlus has officially left the US and European markets. Meanwhile, Realme says its upcoming devices will run on ColorOS 17.

According to earlier reports, a massive corporate restructure is happening involving Oppo and OnePlus. In line with this, Oppo plans to gradually phase out OnePlus in markets such as Europe and the US due to weak sales amid intense market competition.

Today, OnePlus confirmed the matter, saying it will no longer offer new devices in those markets. In North America, the company’s official application and website will shut down on August 16, while their European counterparts have yet to receive their shutdown schedule.

On a positive note, OnePlus says it will honor its promise to deliver software updates and security patches to existing devices on schedule. Customers will also be able to continuously access the company’s warranty and support services.

OnePlus also reiterated an earlier statement that it would continue its India operations as usual. However, all of its devices will now shift to ColorOS, starting with the Android 17 update.

Speaking of ColorOS, Realme says it will now use the system for its future devices. In line with this, existing smartphones will soon receive ColorOS 17 as the next update.

To recall, Realme is affected by Oppo’s strategic business restructure. The parent company has decided to pause independent operations in China to eliminate overlapping brands and instead push the sub-brands to grow in more profitable markets, such as the Nordics. To further cut business costs, such as R&D, the brand will also have to replace Realme UI with ColorOS.

This, nonetheless, is not a huge change, since the brand originally relied on the said system before adopting Realme UI in 2020. Moreover, the two systems are very similar, offering fans a nearly identical OS experience.
