A reliable HMD-focused tipster claims that the HMD Fusion 2 is not coming out due to some issues.
The first HMD Fusion arrived in September 2024. It’s been two years already, but we are still waiting for its predecessor, which was originally expected last year.
According to tipster @smashx_60, it’s because the company won’t actually put it into production.
The leaker says there’s no confirmation about the move yet, but “HMD might be discontinuing the ‘Fusion Project’ due to high manufacturing costs and profitability issues”
This is not a surprise given the current state of the industry, due to rising memory costs. Moreover, market competition is becoming fiercer, with modular smartphones making little to no significant traction. Given all these factors, it might be a rational decision for the company to axe the HMD Fusion 2.
On a positive note, HMD is reportedly still delivering its promise to offer three years of support for the original HMD Fusion and five years for Business Edition.
