Honor Play 50, Play 50m offer identical specs but huge price discrepancies

Honor has two new smartphones for its Chinese customers. Interestingly, both Play 50 and Play 50m share the same internals and designs (except for their color availability), but their price tags have huge differences.

The Play 50 and Play 50m have been launched by Honor recently without making huge announcements about them. Based on the details of the phones, it can be noticed that there’s almost no difference between them, except for the number of their color options. To start, Play 50 is available in Star Purple, Black Jade Green, and Magic Night Black, while Play 50m is being offered only in Magic Night Black and Sky Blue colorways. Aside from that, the rest of the sections of the two smartphones are similar:

  • Both measure 163.59 x 75.33 x 8.39mm and weigh around 190 grams.
  • They have 6.56-inch LCD displays with 720 x 1612 pixel resolution and up to 90Hz refresh rate.
  • They are powered by Dimensity 6100+ processor and run on MagicOS 8.0.
  • The phones only have one camera, both on the front and back: a 13MP unit for the rear and a 5MP in front.
  • Play 50 and Play 50m have 5200mAh batteries with 10W charging capability.
  • Configurations are available in 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.

In terms of their prices, the two differ significantly. The 6GB/128GB of Play 50 costs 1199 yuan, while the same configuration for Play 50m costs 1499 yuan. Meanwhile, the 8GB/256GB of Play 50 is priced at 1399 yuan, while the same memory and storage option for Play 50m is being offered at 1899 yuan.

It is unknown what causes the huge difference in this pricing despite the two models having the same specifications. We will update this story once we get more details about this and when the brand responds to our query.
