According to a recent report from advanced display market research firm DSCC, Huawei is expected to dominate the foldable smartphone market in the first half of the year. Interestingly, the research event claims that the Chinese brand could dethrone Samsung in the process.
It is undeniable that Samsung is a giant in the foldable market, thanks to its constant dedication to releasing several foldable models in the past. However, Huawei is making a resurgence and is in the process of claiming back its place in the smartphone industry. However, it seems the biggest section it will dominate this year is the foldable section.
That’s according to recent research provided by DSCC, saying that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will own over 40% of the foldable market share in the first half of 2024. According to the firm, this will be possible through the help of the brand’s recent releases of Mate X5 and Pocket 2.
Sadly, DSCC claimed that this would be the opposite of what Samsung will experience, noting that the South Korean company would see its share fall below 20% in the first quarter.
To recall, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5 back in 2023, and it was a success, becoming the bestselling model in Q4. However, Huawei has a huge plan for its foldable business, and it could soon pose a threat to Samsung’s position in the market.
“A strong performance from Huawei is expected to drive the Q1, 2024 foldable phone market to jump 105 percent year-on-year,” the DSCC report reads.
