Redmi K90 Pro Max offers IP68 rating, same main cam as Xiaomi 17

Over the weekend, Xiaomi shared that the Redmi K90 Pro Max uses the same main camera as the new Xiaomi 17. The brand also assured fans that the phone supports an IP68 rating despite having a new external speaker on its back.

The K90 series will be announced in China on October 23. Ahead of the date, the brand has already detailed most of the sections of the Pro Max model. One includes its design, which features a built-in Bose speaker on the camera island on its back. The component should bring a powerful sound system to the device, but some questioned whether this could affect the phone’s protection feature. To this end, Redmi Product Manager Sun Cun underscored that “the speaker hole on the back does not affect dust and water resistance,” adding that its software also has an audio vibration cleaning function for dust.

The Chinese smartphone maker also shared over the weekend that the Pro Max device has a 1/1.31″ Light Fusion 950 main sensor, which is also the same component that the new Xiaomi 17 model uses. As such, the upcoming Redmi device can deliver the same powerful imaging as the said Xiaomi phone. To recall, the 1G+6P glass-plastic hybrid lens brings a 13.5EV dynamic range and anti-glare multi-layer coating. The said lens will also be joined by an ultrawide and a periscope telephoto unit with a 5x optical zoom.

According to earlier reports, the lineup includes the Redmi K90 and the Redmi K90 Pro Max, with the latter joining the CN¥4000+ segment. Both models offer 100W charging, an IP68 rating, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. However, the Pro Max model reportedly has a bigger 7500mAh battery, while the vanilla variant could have a smaller 7100mAh cell. The series is also rumored to feature new displays, dual speakers, and metal frames, with Pro Max offering a 6.59″ flat 2K 120Hz LTPS OLED.
