MIUI has some more additional permissions compared to the normal bare Android. Some users usually doesn’t understand what they mean, or what they exactly do at all.
Although they might seem for security, sometimes they are still hard to understand. This post will show you one by one what they mean and what they do.
Modify System Settings
This permission let the app to use the system-level actions, such as changing brightness, or locking the phone or more stuff that’s required for the app to run that uses system settings.
Change WLAN Connectivity
As the name says, this permission let’s the app to change WLAN/Wi-Fi connection & switch between Wi-Fi connections without asking the user over and over again. If this permission is normally not granted, MIUI will just give you a pop-up every time to allow or decline it for one time. When this permission is granted, it will allow without asking.
Change Bluetooth Connectivity
This is the same thing as Wi-Fi, but it’s applied for Bluetooth instead. This permission let’s the app to change Bluetooth connection & switch between Bluetooth connections without asking the user over and over again. If this permission is normally not granted, MIUI will just give you a pop-up every time to allow or decline it for one time. When this permission is granted, it will allow without asking.
Add Homescreen Shortcuts
This permission does exist in MIUI so that app doesn’t abuse and spam your homescreen with icons and therefore lag the device. MIUI doesn’t show any pop-up or notification when app tries to use this permission, so you can’t know if app tries to create a shortcut on homescreen. If you allow this permission, MIUI will just let the app to create homescreen shortcuts without any pop-up as well.
Show in lock screen
This permission let’s the app to still display itself in lock screen of the device. This permission is mostly needed for the apps like one of these lock screen apps that displays over normal ones as an example.
Display pop-up windows while running in background
This permission let’s the app to display things while the app is not in foreground/in background. This permission is usually for the apps such as screen recorders, CPU frequency apps and much much more for an example. This does exist in MIUI so app doesn’t abuse the permission to block your screen as well if the app is malicious. This permission also exist in bare android but with a different name as “Display over other apps”.
Display pop-up windows
This permission is mostly same as above. But instead, it’s for the apps like Facebook Messenger to show it’s chat bubbles. In short, this permission is for chat bubbles generally.
MIUI itself describes the permission as above picture.
Permanent Notification
This permission exist in MIUI so that the app doesn’t abuse permanent notifications in such cases like spamming it, and lagging the phone.
Get Info About Installed Apps
This permission exist in MIUI so that the app can/can’t have access to list of your apps, like private ones and limits the app from having info about your app list and sharing them outside.
Read about calendar events
As the name says, this permission let’s the app to access your whole calendar including your appointments and events and such. If it’s not determined before, MIUI will show a pop-up about to allow the app to use this permission or not.
Access accounts in device
This permission let’s the app to have the information about your accounts in the device. No, it doesn’t let the app to know the sensitive stuff like the account passwords. It’s just there so that app can know if you’re pirating for ex ample by checking the account and comparing with license of the app so if you bought that app officially or pirated it.
Body Sensors
This permission let’s the app to access sensors like proximity, orientation, and more sensors that are in phone. This permission is for apps like step counters, or some games for orientation sensor.
Access Activity Info
This permission is being used to let the app access your activity in the phone, like the apps you enter, when do you unlock the phone, when do you take a picture, and such more like the ones explained. This is a sensitive permission and we suggest you to keep it off.
Access And Save Items To Clipboard
This permission let’s the app to see the items that you copied, and let the app add items to there as well. This is a sensitive permission and we suggest you to disable it. If you copied things like bank information, app is able to access it.
Keep in mind that these permissions are the ones that are located with MIUI 12.5. In MIUI 13, there might be more permissions than the above ones, if theres any, we will update the post.
