Xiaomi announces it’s first Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 flagship

Snapdragon has officially released its flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipset. It brings several improvements in terms of power consumption and manufacturing technology compared to the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Xiaomi was reported to be one of the first brands to launch its smartphone powered by the new flagship chipset, now we have an official announcement on the same.

Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, has made an official announcement about the company’s upcoming annual masterpiece on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. He has officially confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi flagship will be the first device to be powered by the Snapdragon 8+. He went on to say that the Snapdragon 8+ was codenamed 8475. This is not a simple half-generation upgrade, but rather a significant improvement in performance and energy consumption.

However, he didn’t confirm anything regarding the upcoming masterpiece by the brand apart from the SoC. It’s expected that the upcoming annual masterpiece, he was referring to in the post will most probably be either Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 includes the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem, the world’s first 10 gigabit 5G solution, and Snapdragon Sight, a new image processor with an 18-bit ISP that can capture “more than 4000x more data than 14-bit predecessors,” a bold claim for an image processor. Most importantly, the latest Kryo architecture for maximum performance. It is built on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication node, and Qualcomm’s performance claims are bold, claiming a 10% increase in performance over the 8 Gen 1 while keeping GPU and CPU clock speeds 30% lower.
