After showing off the Modular Optical System at MWC, Xiaomi finally provided some actual sample photos taken using the attachable lens.
The Xiaomi Modular Optical System is a pre-research device from the Chinese giant. It is a detachable lens that attaches using magnets. At MWC, Xiaomi used the Modular Optical System on a modified Xiaomi 15 series model with a Qi2 magnet.
The module houses an M43 sensor, which is much larger than what is found in any smartphone on the market. The sensor provides an f1.4 aperture and a 35mm focal length fixed-focus lens, ensuring better details and low-light performance during any scene. It also relies on Xiaomi’s LaserLink technology, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with a Xiaomi device and be a convenient detachable camera accessory.
While there’s still no actual confirmation from Xiaomi whether the Modular Optical System will be mass-produced or not, it provided some sample photos it took using it:
