Qualcomm’s flagship CPUs in recent years have suffered extreme throttling problems. Downclocking the CPUs that were being throttled is the solution for certain OEMs, including Xiaomi. When performing routine daily tasks, it can be difficult to tell if a CPU is underclocked, but it will become while dealing with heavy loads like gaming.
Throttling the CPU

What about Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1?
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is manufactured by TSMC with 4 nm process. 8 Gen 1 was manufactured by Samsung. Xiaomi 12S series will be launched in July 4 but Xiaomi already shared a graph indicating the CPU usage of 8+ Gen 1.
Under the same heavy task “8+ Gen 1” uses 30% less power than “8 Gen 1“. GPU power usage has even more difference with 33%. Using less power means less heat and more battery life. Xiaomi stated that battery life is improved as well.
15% better battery life with 8+ Gen 1
When it comes to the battery life of smartphones, CPU efficiency is crucial. Xiaomi compares the battery life of its 12S and 12 series.
Xiaomi 12S offers 15% better battery performance compared to its predecessor Xiaomi 12. The gap between Xiaomi 11 is huge. Xiaomi 11 was released in 2020 and uses Snapdragon 888 CPU which has thermal issues as the 8 Gen 1.
