Tipster: All top 5 Chinese smartphone brands to adopt square selfie tech

According to a leaker, five brands will soon use the square selfie format in their smartphones.

The technology was popularized by Apple through the iPhone 17 series. Instead of the conventional 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, the Cupertino giant offers a 1:1 front-facing camera in its devices, allowing users to capture both vertical and horizontal photos and videos without physically rotating the phone.

Earlier reports indicated that Vivo, Honor, and Oppo would be the first brands to follow suit. Nonetheless, tipster Smart Pikachu claims that there will actually be five companies presenting the feature soon. This means it could include Xiaomi and Huawei.

As reported earlier, Vivo is testing a 68MP square selfie camera, likely for the Vivo X500 series. Meanwhile, both Honor and Oppo have 100MP front-facing cameras. The Honor Magic 9 lineup is said to use a 100MP OVA0B 1/1.8″ sensor, while the Oppo Find X10 series would employ a Samsung lens with a 1/2.5″ size.
