Xiaomi 17 Series: Everything You Need To Know

Xiaomi has finally unveiled its latest flagship models: the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

The entire lineup is full of surprises and upgrades, from the base to the top model. To start, the vanilla model houses the same new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip that is also used in the Pro and Pro Max variants. Compared to the Xiaomi 15, the phone also has a much bigger battery at 7000mAh, which now supports faster 100W charging and even 50W wireless and up to 22.5W reverse wired and wireless charging. The front camera has also been upgraded to 50MP.

The Pro models have a more impressive set of specs, starting with their secondary rear displays, measuring 2.7 inches. The screen allows several functions, including music controls, timers, notifications, and more. Xiaomi also offers a handheld console case for the Pro and Pro Max, allowing them to play games using the rear display of the units. Moreover, the display also lets users conveniently take high-quality selfie shots using the units’ main rear cameras (50MP 1/1.28″ f/1.67 Light Fusion 950L main with OIS + 50MP f/3.0 periscope with OIS, 5x optical zoom, and 20cm macro + 50MP ultrawide). This is an interesting feature for the 17 Pro since it is just a compact model with a 6.3″ front main display.

Despite its small form, the rear display is not the only impressive detail Xiaomi managed to include in the Pro. The compact handheld also has a huge 4,637mm² vapor chamber and a bigger 6300mAh battery. Unlike its predecessor, it also now has faster 100W wired charging and now offers 22.5W wired and wireless reverse charging support. 

Ultimately, there’s the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which has a bigger profile. Yet, its specs justify its size, including its huge 7500mAh battery, which can also serve as a powerbank due to its 22.5W reverse wired and wireless charging capabilities. It also has an IP68 rating, a bigger 1-120Hz LTPO front display, a bigger 2.9″ rear screen, and a much better telephoto unit. While it has the same 50MP selfie camera, 50MP 1/1.28″ Light Fusion 950L main camera, and 50MP 102° ultrawide, its telephoto has a larger 1/2″ sensor ISOCELL GN8 with f/2.6 aperture and 5x optical zoom. Note, however, that its macro works at 30cm.
