Battery Health feature added to Android 13 QPR1 by Google, allows you to check your battery health in detail, just like in iOS. This feature has been anticipated for years and has finally been firmly decided to add it. Battery Health feature gives you an estimate of your battery capacity and offers tips on extending battery life. This feature added with Android 13 QPR1 and was removed with Android 14 Beta 1, but it will apparently be added back. Because Google is making various improvements on APIs in this direction.
New BatteryManager API added for Battery Health feature
There are new APIs spotted by Mishaal Rahman, Google is making a lot of changes to add back the Battery Health feature. Introduced with Android 13 QPR1, Battery Health feature was removed from Settings with Android 14 and placed in Settings Intelligence. Now, although the feature has been removed from the SettingsIntelligence app in Android 14 Beta 1, it has a chance to be brought back. A new API created by Google confirms this. The BatteryManager API will ship with Android 14 to get the battery charge cycle count and battery charge status (normal, static threshold, adaptive threshold, always on).
Also available are new system APIs to get battery manufacture date, date of first use of battery and current health status in percentage. In addition, estimated expiration date of battery will be calculated accordingly. Google will implement these API regulations directly in Settings app, so that other OEMs will be able to make improvements on this API, add more different features and offer it to users. There’s still time for this feature to be fully added to Android 14, perhaps something we’ll see in Android 15.
Battery Health feature which has been available on iPhone devices for many years, took a long time for Android devices to get it. Google is late on this because it’s a very important feature and needs to be added immediately. Detailed battery health feature is important for users. It’s highly likely that you will get this feature with Android 14 or Android 15, also available with MIUI 15 for Xiaomi users. Xiaomi can offer users a more advanced Battery Health feature with extra tweaks, we’ll wait and see. Check out this post for a few tips on maintaining the battery health of your Xiaomi device.
