Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra would be unveiled next week in China.
The news follows several leaks about the Xiaomi smartphone, which is now available for pre-orders. According to earlier reports, the device is keeping the circular camera island design. However, from the four rear cameras of predecessors, the Chinese giant is reportedly reducing it to three. Despite having fewer lenses, the phone reportedly has better cameras than its predecessor. Leaks suggest that Xiaomi will focus on using larger lenses this time, with some tipsters stating that the company is adding a new Leica coating to the cameras. As per rumors, the lenses the phone houses include the 50MP OVX10500U for the main unit, the 200MP S5KHPE for telephoto, and 50MP OV50M or 50MP S5KJN5 for the ultrawide. The selfie camera, on the other hand, could arrive with a 50MP OV50M lens.
As usual, the company has collaborated with Leica once again to create the first Leica APO-certified telephoto lens in a smartphone. The collaboration is expected to introduce reduced chromatic aberration, improved color accuracy, and enhanced night photography capabilities.
Other highlights of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra include its rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a battery with an estimated 7000mAh capacity, 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging capabilities, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and an IP68 rating. According to earlier rumors, the device is expected to launch on December 26. This complements the brand’s usual Thursday launch.
